The College Football Dogs: Week 13 Bets And Picks

As the CFB Regular Season draws to a close LB looks for betting value in college football Week 13

Week 13 looks to be the toughest slate so far in terms of College Football betting. There will no doubt be some upsets but finding value is quite difficult. As tempting as it is to throw up some big underdogs here I think this is a week to play it safe.

Notre Dame @ Stanford

The Irish are 20 point favourites here and even that looks too few. Brian Kelly has spoken to the media about winning with “style points” and how his side are ticking that box for the College Football Playoff committee. Notre Dame has won their last three games by 28, 25 and 55 points and the whole program knows they must keep winning like this to stay in the hunt for a shot at the national championship. Stanford have lost their last three by an average of 32 points and look forlorn. With a 3-8 record, their season is a bust and they have shown almost zero fight since the overtime win against Oregon back in early October. The Irish will romp this one.

Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State

What a game this should be. The home side are favorites here which tells me Vegas is of the opinion that the Cowboys defense is better than the Sooners offense. Personally, I am not so sure.  Oklahoma State has given up more than 20 points five times this season. In fact, each time they played a reasonably strong offense they conceded multiple touchdowns and allowed 20+ points (Tulsa, Boise, K State, Texas, Iowa State). For that reason I lean towards the Sooners, but even if State comes out on top, the points total in this one looks too low. This game should see 50 points. If you can only watch one game this weekend, this should be it.

Clemson @ South Carolina

The Tigers demolished Wake Forest last week and to many people that announced the arrival (or reemergence) of Clemson as the ACC top dog. I don’t buy it. Although I fancied Wake Forest to win that game, I referenced how the match up very much suited Clemson. This should be a very different game.

South Carolina has beaten Auburn and Florida, pushed Missouri all the way and even managed to put up 13 points on Georgia (the second highest of any team this season). They had some ugly losses early in the campaign, in particular against Kentucky and Tennessee, but those were just poor performances. With a bowl game on the horizon the Gamecocks are unlikely to have an off day. Not to mention this will be their final home game of the year.

Ones To Watch Elsewhere

Cincinnati @ East Carolina

Cincinnati have finally made it into the committee’s Top 4 and now know that their destiny is in their own hands. If the Bearcats win two more games they will make history as the first G5 school to make it to the playoffs. Will the pressure get to them? Eastern Carolina are 3rd in the American Conference, although they cannot make the conference game even with a win here. The Pirates would love nothing more than to spoil this party.

Ohio State @ Michigan

I predicted Big Ten carnage (on Twitter above) and so far it is panning out that way. This game will go a long way toward deciding who makes the playoffs. Ohio State (#2) needs to win out if they want to remain in the Top 4. They come up against Michigan who know they can still make the playoffs too if they win here (and win the Big 10). Victory here does not guarantee a trip to the playoffs, but with Wisconsin and Iowa waiting in the wings, a loss would certainly rule it out. Do not be surprised if the Wolverines put on a show for the home crowd.

Georgia @ Georgia Tech

The Bulldogs are playing in the SEC conference game and have one foot in the playoffs already. They have struggled with injuries a bit this season, if you can call 11-0 struggling. Although they have not let up in any game so far, this might be one where we see key guys protected late on. The Yellow Jackets are picking up 35.5 and it feels a little high.

SRD Selections:

Notre Dame @ Stanford – Notre Dame -20 @ 10/11

Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State – Oklahoma +4 @ 10/11

Oklahoma @ Oklahoma State – Over 49.5 Points @ 10/11

Clemson @ South Carolina – South Carolina +11.5 @ 10/11

Clemson @ South Carolina – South Carolina moneyline win @ 7/2

Parlay of Notre Dame, Oklahoma & Clemson at a little under 6/1 (+595).

Personal Bets:

Arizona takes on Arizona State in their final game of the season. They are 20.5 point underdogs and after winning us so much money this year I have to back them. On paper they are miles behind their in-state rivals but this game is their National Championship. Arizona State cannot make the Pac-12 conference game, have a bowl game guaranteed and have nothing to gain from a win here. Let’s see some of these Wildcat seniors go out on a high.
