NFL Touchdown Tips: Tempting Thanksgiving Treble

Our Thanksgiving betting bonanza continues with this touchdown treble that should spice up the holiday season.

The best day of NFL action of the year is upon us. The Thanksgiving triple header never disappoints and hopefully the tasty treble can land to make 2021 extra special.

Bears @ Lions – 25th Nov 17:30 GMT

I don’t think anyone is expecting this game to be a classic but the build-up hasn’t been short of drama. The Bears have lost their starting QB Justin Fields, with Andy Dalton starting in his place. Coach Matt Nagy is rumoured to be very close to getting the sack and a loss here could be the final nail in his coffin. From a Lions perspective Jared Goff looks likely to start, which should be a massive positive. Instead though Goff has been forced to deny a rift with offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn. It’s more like a soap opera than an NFL game.

From a betting perspective this match-up has to come with warnings. Most analysts and punters are expecting a fairly low scoring game, the worst type of fixture when betting in the touchdown scorer market. David Montgomery looks the most obvious bet. Since returning from injury he’s been getting a lot of snaps and his workload should increase with Fields out injured. He’s priced up at odds-on (10/11) and that isn’t my type of price. Instead I’m backing WR Marquise Goodwin. The Bears speedster scored a great TD last Sunday and he looks like the type of player Any Dalton will build a rapport with. Dalton loves a deep shot and on his day Goodwin has the speed, and the hands, to cause most defenses issues. The Lions defense is ranked 27th in the league in total defense, so Goodwin should get chances. The 3/1 on offer looks like value and hopefully we can get Thanksgiving off to a great start.

Raiders @ Cowboys – 25th Nov 21:30 GMT

I mentioned above that events within the Bears and Lions camps resembled a soap opera but even a script writer would struggle to come up the goings on in Vegas. From John Gruden’s abrupt departure to Henry Rugg’s arrest for an alcohol fueled crash, the last number of weeks have been eventful to say the least. On the field it’s three losses on the spin and their season is unravelling quickly. There’s no doubt the Raiders have talent but it’s difficult to trust them to perform week in week out.

The Cowboys were disappointing last week and come into this game depleted with injuries. Amari Cooper misses the game through COVID and CeeDee Lamb needs to clear concussion protocol in time to line-up. With that pair absent (or if Lamb plays and is limited) Dak Prescott will need to be on top form and I think I noticed an angle last Sunday. Prescott targeted Cedric Wilson quite regularly and in particular in clutch situations. That gives me the impression there’s some trust there. Wilson’s numbers haven’t been brilliant but this looks like it could be a breakout game and at 9/5 I’m backing him to bag a TD.

Bills @ Saints – 26th Nov 01:20 GMT

This is the game of Thanksgiving Thursday in my opinion. The Saints have been hit hard with injuries to key skill players and that has derailed their season somewhat. Three back to back losses leaves them with a 5-5 record and another defeat here would crush their playoff hopes. The good news for the Saints is that they’re facing a stuttering Bills offense. Josh Allen and Co. just haven’t been themselves in recent weeks and in particular, they’ve been very slow starters. The Patriots have now taken the lead in the AFC East and there’s serious pressure mounting on the Bills who were 4/11 favourites to win the division before the season kicked off. The loss of top spot has to surely kick the Bills into gear and I think they’ll be looking to make a statement. The bet for me in this match is TE Dawson Knox who looks a big price at 3/1. Knox is only recently back from injury but posted decent numbers (6/10 for 80 yards) in Sunday’s defeat to the Colts. He’s a player that makes this offense tick and I can see him having a massive impact on this matchup.
