NFL Sunday Tips: Road Teams To Deliver

We're past the halfway mark in the NFL season and after a couple of weeks filled with unpredictable results we look to get back on track with this 13/2 treble.

Week 11 of the NFL is upon us and after a bright start to the season, it’s safe to say that Week 10 was a nadir for this column (and punters in general). The Falcons were a massive let down as former head coach Dan Martin enacted a sweet revenge. The Cowboys defense gave the Matt Ryan led Atlanta offense a torrid time. Elsewhere the Chargers also failed to produce and succumbed to a surprising home defeat to the Vikings. This season continues to show how close the NFL is from top to bottom.

Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets

Our first landing spot this week and headline pick is the Miami Dolphins -3.5 points at the New York Jets. The Dolphins have by no means set the pulses racing so far but they do arrive on the back of two successive wins, having beaten the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens.

The basis for those victories has been their solid defense limiting both opponents to a total of nineteen points. The Jets are in a state of flux and that gives Miami an opportune chance to make it three victories in a row. The home team are without rookie quarterback Zach Wilson and have decided to go for veteran Joe Flacco after Mike Whites meltdown last week.

Flacco has bounced around as a back up for the last number of years and its very hard to see him hitting the ground running against this divisional rival. The Dolphins had great success with the blitz last week and you have to envisage a similar approach against the Jets this time around.

Tua Tagovailoa will be back as starter for the Dolphins after showing a safe pair of hands against the Ravens. Jaylen Waddle will be looking for a big week after an underwhelming last few outings and this could well be the match up that shows him in his best light. With that in mind I’m taking the Dolphins to cover the -3.5 points (10/11) spread.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Las Vegas Raiders

The Bengals come into this game fresh after their bye week. They would have needed a rest after their tough defeat to division rivals the Cleveland Browns. The Bengals never got going that day, with a combination of some bad turnovers and poor rush defense meaning the contest was effectively game over by half time.

The Raiders for their part have hit something of a funk following the removal of Jon Gruden as head coach, with clear signs of splits in the camp. Last weeks demolition at the hands of the Chiefs showed a team struggling on both sides of the ball, with their secondary sliced open at will.  In such a competitive division the Raiders have lost form at the wrong time and they will struggle to stop this Bengals offence.

Joe Burrow has been extremely impressive this term and has struck up a great dynamic with deep field threat Ja’Marr Chase. Running back Joe Mixon should get lots of joy against this Raiders frontline. The Bengals look a solid bet here -1point (10/11) and if they can win their playoff hopes will be back on track.

Baltimore Ravens @ Chicago Bears

Last but no means least I’m focusing on the Chicago Bears who look to continue their improvement. Rookie quarterback Justin Fields is gradually starting to show what the hype was about in the draft. Although the Beras come into this game on a four game losing streak, Fields has started to show his mobility and great awareness when moving out of the pocket. With number one running back David Montgomery fully fit they have plenty of options in the backfield.

The Ravens are looking to bounce back from an inexplicable performance last week. John Harbaughs charges had no answer to the blitz heavy Dolphins and Lamar Jackson was pressured and harried all game. This match-up has all the makings of a tight low scoring slog and in those scenarios I love to take the points on offer. The Bears +6 (10/11) and that rounds out our treble.
