Enzo’s Insights: A Saturday Shutout At The San Siro
Enzo fancies Milan to keep a clean sheet when they meet Salernitana and has a big price selection for Sunday's heavyweight clash in Naples
Ac Milan v Salernitana – Sat 4 Dec 14:00 BST
Since Colantuono took over at Salernitana goals have been hard to come by for the side from Campania. They have only managed three in their last six outings, two of which came against Venezia. Salernitana have also failed to find the net against a Top 8 team in five attempts.
Matchday 13 was definitely unlucky for Milan and saw their unbeaten run come to an end at the Franchi. The mini-crisis was further exacerbated by a 3-1 home loss to Sassuolo the following weekend. The Rossoneri have since rebounded and easily beat Genoa 3-0 on Wednesday night.
I fancy another comfortable win for Milan here so Ac Milan win to nil @ 11/10 is the bet. This is basically the same call as my successful midweek selection but why look a gift horse in the mouth?
Napoli v Atalanta – Sat 4 Dec 19:45 BST
Arguably the game of the weekend, this is a tough one to call. Atalanta are the hot side but 9/5 seems tight considering they were almost 3/1 a couple of weeks ago when I backed them to triumph in Turin. Napoli are a far better side than Juventus and have only dropped 2 points at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona so for me the risk outweighs the reward.
Instead I am dipping into the goalscorer market and having a punt on Mario Pašalić to score anytime @ 9/2. Form may be temporary but I’m a firm believer in it and the Croat certainly is a man on fire. He has six in his last four and seven for the season. Generally Atalanta are a little more reserved when facing a scudetto rival but at such a huge price the midfielder has got to be worth a shot.
Venezia v Hellas Verona Sun 5 Dec 14:00 BST
Tudor and Verona have been making headlines lately thanks to some high profile victories and stunning goals courtesy of Cholito Simeone. Surprisingly, despite the turnaround in fortunes and eye-catching performances, Hellas are yet to win away from the Bentegodi (W0 D4 L3). Their form has also taken a dip recently. A 3-1 defeat to Sampdoria and the subsequent failure to secure maximum points against lowly Cagliari hint at the Tudor revival going out of vogue.
I completely overestimated Venezia and made, what was in hindsight, a rather rash call on Tuesday evening. However, the stats still stand and lagoonside, Venezia’s record (W2, D1 L3) is respectable if a little baffling. It includes victories over Fiorentina and Roma and losses to Salernitana and Spezia which screams unpredictability.
Originally I considered a home win but I decided to dial back the hubris and go with the draw @ 12/5. It wouldn’t be a shock if Venezia did edge it but I feel Verona will have just enough quality to come away with yet another point on the road.
Ac Milan v Salernitana: Ac Milan win to nil @ 11/10
Napoli v Atalanta: Mario Pašalić Anytime Scorer @ 9/2
Venezia v Hellas Verona: Draw @ 12/5
