Cowboys to Continue their Run while Bill welcomes home Tom
The dual threat Cowboys should have too much for a Panthers team chasing their fourth consecutive win. Elsewhere we like the Pats to stay competitive and a tight game in Foxborough.
Last week was a tough beat to take with New England and Dallas comfortably taking care of business while the Raiders overcame a disastrous 14-0 first quarter to arrive at an eight point lead with seconds remaining.
It looked as if they would see out the game but the Dolphins had other ideas with a last gasp touchdown and 2 point conversion to tie out the game. In OT we prayed for a Raiders TD to cover the 3.5 spread but had to make do with a winning FG which saw them claim the win.
Although we have only had one treble land its been 9/9 with the moneyline calls which gives some scant consolation. Moving on to Week 4 and opportunities abound on an intriguing slate.
NFL Week 4 ATS Picks
Panthers @ Dallas
First up we see no reason to abandon the Dallas Cowboys at home as they take on the Carolina Panthers. Dallas are being asked to give up 4.5 points (10/11) on the handicap and we are confident they are capable of doing so. The Panthers are 3-0 and will be brimming full of confidence following their excellent start to the season. The highlight so far was the comprehensive victory over the New Orleans Saints.
However, this Cowboys offense are a different animal with a threat on the ground and in the air. Carolina have been good at stopping the former but they have not come up against a quarterback of the caliber of Dak Prescott. Prescott has been in superfluous form this season and dissected the Eagles secondary with aplomb last time out.
With the AT&T stadium rocking we anticipate the home side to shoot out of the gates and take control against a Panthers secondary that will be given a stern examination. In response a Christian McCaffrey-less Panthers will rely on Sam Darnold to keep pace. This could result in some risky decisions and potential turnovers. Cowboys to move to 3-1 with a comfortable home win.
Washington Football Team @ Falcons
Next up we move to the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Football Team game. A match with two teams who have been decidedly average to date. Atlanta somehow produced a come from behind victory against the NY Giants last week in a largely turgid affair. What was most noticeable about that game was the conservative play calling on offense with an offensive line that struggled under duress.
Washington for their part got absolutely mauled away to the Buffalo Bills and their much vaunted defense will be keen to make amends this time up. Their run to the playoffs last year was based on a miserly rearguard actions. Washington have some impressive weapons in the form of Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson at Running Back but quarter back Taylor Heinicke has yet to produce much and at 0-3 you would imagine they will aim to stay competitive and eke out a win.
All of this leads us confidently to the under points total of 47.5 (10/11). Both sides will play hard and risk averse football and we are extremely confident of a tight mainly listless affair.
Buccaneers @ Patriots
Last, but by no means least, we look to the most hyped game of the season so far as Tom Brady returns home to Gillette Stadium to take on mentor Bill Belichick’s Patriots on Monday Night Football. It is sure to be a brilliant tactical battle as the greatest mind in the game looks to get after the quarterback who delivered so much for him throughout their successful years together.
Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be looking to bounce back after a stinging defeat on the road to the LA Rams last week. Second week on the road in an emotional occasion against a coach with numerous schemes waiting, we really like the New England Patriots to stay within striking distance with +7 points(10/11).
The Patriots for their own part have been competent so far without setting the world alight. Quarterback rookie Mac Jones has been steady if unspectacular but their defense has been quite solid. We anticipate Belichick taking the ball out of Brady’s hands by setting up with six defensive backs and ask Tampa Bay to run the football.
This could lead to a cagey battle that could easily come in under the inordinately high 49.5 points. Either way a home underdog getting +7 points against a team on traveling for their second consecutive game is an angle we really like.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Carolina Panthers – Cowboys -4.5
Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Football Team – Under 47.5
New England Patriots vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Patriots +7
Treble at 6/1
