Champions League Tips: Midfielders To Shine In This 24/1 Acca
This Champions League is back and LB shares his best bets for the midweek football, including United, Man City, Liverpool and Barcelona.
Atalanta v Man United Tues 02 Nov 20:00 GMT
We’ve gone into great detail about betting angles against Man United this season, specifically in the form of opposition shots on target. Whatever it is about United’s style of play they tend to cough up a lot of chances to opposition midfielders. Thankfully from a betting perspective it does not tend to matter that much if United win, draw or lose. We opted for Davide Zappacosta when these sides met two weeks ago and I see no reason to desert him. Unfortunately his shot in that game was off target, but he is well priced for Tuesday at 13/10 for 1+ SOT.
Dynamo Kiev v Barcelona Tues 02 Nov 20:00 GMT
Barcelona are a mess at the minute. They travel to Ukraine badly in need of a win, both to boost their confidence and to salvage something from this European campaign. Kiev will know that a win here is crucial if they want to make it into the Europa League after the winter break. A home win is 9/2 which looks like a great price but I will stick to the shots market.
Kiev play a 4-5-1 formation but the two wide players love to get forward. Carlos de Pena and Viktor Tsygankov are both generously priced at 11/10 for one shot on target. They have each managed at least one shot per game in the Champions League so far – no mean feat considering they have played Barcelona and Bayern Munich away. Tsygankov is Kiev’s top scorer this season so we’ll take him, but anyone considering a same game multi should not be put off de Pena.
Man City v Club Brugge Wed 02 Nov 20:00 GMT
We have tipped Belgian striker Hans Vanaken to hit the target a number of times this season and he has not let us down yet, including when grabbing a late consolation goal for Brugge the last time these sides met. Shots on target are not yet priced for Wednesday’s game but Vanaken is worth betting at any price outside evens and I expect he will be around 11/10 when this market opens. He has been overlooked in the betting all season despite having nine shots in the Champions League and 21 in the league already.
Man City to win and BTTS is 7/4 – an enormous increase on the 1/9 for a straight win. City have conceded in each UCL game so far, allowing 6 goals against in three outings and are not the solid defensive unit they looked to be early in the season. They have conceded in 5 of their last 6 games across the Premier League and Champions League with Burnley being the only side not to score .
Liverpool v Atletico Madrid Wed 02 Nov 20:00 GMT
This is a very straightforward bet. Both of these teams have a reputation for being defensively frugal but lately their games have been very high scoring. Five of the last six Atleti games have seen over 2.5 goals, at an average of four goals per game. They have conceded in 6 of their last 8 games, allowing 10 goals during that period. Eleven of Liverpool’s last 12 games have gone over that same mark, with 6 of those games seeing at least five goals. Over 2.5 goals here is 5/6 and looks a steal.
Davide Zappacosta 1+ SOT @ 13/10
Viktor Tsygankov 1+ SOT @ 11/10
Man City to win & BTTS @ 7/4
Liverpool v Atletico Madrid Over 2.5 Goals @ 5/6
Acca of the above picks at a little over 24/1
