Champions League Tips: A Stamford Bridge Stalemate?

After a score draw in Madrid all eyes turn to Stamford Bridge and Liam expects an open game.

Chelsea v Real Madrid – Wednesday 05 May 20:00 BST

Both sides will feel confident coming into this tie with the score all square from the first leg. Chelsea utterly outplayed their hosts for the opening 15 minutes last week and Real were lucky to only be a goal down. Madrid then managed to claw their way back into the game, pulled one back before half time and looked set to kick on in the second half. However, that is not how the game panned out. Madrid controlled the final hour of proceedings without creating too many clear cut chances and it finished one a piece.

The away goal Chelsea picked up could be crucial. They have a superb defence and will relish the opportunity to protect their away goal advantage. After just about surviving the opening onslaught last week, Madrid can be under no illusions. They must attack this game early and pin Chelsea back.

With this tie so finely poised I can see an open game developing. A one goal lead gives neither team much breathing room so both team could chase goals throughout. Over 2.5 match goals at 13/10 stands out as over priced. However, BTTS at 9/10 is the safer play and is the pick here. We have seen teams settle for Extra Time in the past, and a repeat of last week’s score would be no surprise.
