Beano’s Bet Builder: Home Comforts for Lamb

Monday night football sees an old NFC East rivalry in Cowboys home opener as the Eagles travel to the AT&T Stadium

None of the NFC East teams appeared to want to win the division last season, with the Washington Football Team triumphing with a 7-9 record. The early signs are that it will be more competitive this time, though, with the Football Team, Eagles and Cowboys all on the board with early wins. Monday’s clash between the Cowboys and Eagles is a key contest in what should again be an open division and the home team are fancied to emerge with a win at AT&T Stadium.

Eagles

The Eagles have looked an improved team so far this season but their form has to be questioned. They thrashed Atlanta 32-6 in Week One, but the Falcons just can’t stop the run. Then Philadelphia struggled to get anything going offensively in their 17-11 home defeat in Week Two. The 49ers beat the Eagles comfortably despite giving up 151 yards on the ground.

Cowboys

Dallas could have problems with their pass defense, but they are pretty sound at stopping the run. They had a tough time dealing with pass plays in their first two games, but they were up against Tom Brady and Justin Herbert in those contests. Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts does not fit into the elite quarterback conversation.

Verdict

The key to handling Hurts is to keep him in check when he runs, and if the Cowboys do that, they should be able to limit the Eagles scoring opportunities. We saw last week in the Washington game versus the Giants how important the extra half point on the spread can be and Dallas -3.5 here is tricky. Some bookies are offering -3 and that is a lot more tempting, although this Cowboys offense has the ability to score enough to make it a non-issue. If they can start well and force Hurts and the Eagles to rely on their passing attack the Cowboys should have enough to win this divisional clash.
